Dear Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno
Subject: Clarifications on the lists.
read the special election (insert the Gazzetta del Mezzogiorno today), I focused on and signed by the journalist Paul Pinelli on lists of the Province Barletta-Andria-Trani for regional elections.
Pinelli in his art. emphasizes the negative result of the presence (or should I say lack thereof) of women among applicants. Mistakenly fails to mention the list of PRC-PDCI and Verdi among those that still have guaranteed the share of one third of women (2 out of 6 candidates).
Beyond that, what is stressed is not the presence on the list by name, even that important, but if there is indeed the political will to invest in women in institutions and make such important point of view of women .
Past experience tells us that this will, in principle, there was, as we ended up with monosexual elective councils, with some gaunt presence rose. The amendment that would guarantee the election of women, namely those involving double preference (1 man, 1 woman) in fact has not been voted by the regional council in almost all male.
And the rest could not be otherwise if they continue to repeat situations like the one record in this electoral contest, for example Barletta expresses as many as 12 candidates for the regional council, of which only one woman myself.
Why is it important not only in the presence list, but the actual election of women?
Simply because the protection of women's rights can not be guaranteed by the men, beginning with the actual job opportunities (permanent and lasting), not relegated to the duties of care and treatment of children and the elderly, attention to urban, health, environmental quality and social contexts.
A point of view and a capacity for intervention is that of women, as is the specific gender difference, which is why I ask in a loud voice to women (and not only them) to look at women and vote on them, especially when not from a militant feminist movements in the last minute and put at the center today is the emancipation of those enslaved, those who suffer abuse and violence, from women.
Only a substantial presence of women who have the profile planning can begin a process of true healing, from the manner and timing of the policy, and a serious promotion of women in politics, which is representative militant.
